Nuala Morse

Nuala Morse is an Associate Professor in Museum Studies at the University of Leicester, UK. Her research examines the ‘care work’ of museum professionals, the ethics of care in museum practice, and the role of museums and galleries in public health. This includes exploring the links between cultural participation, health, well-being and recovery, with a focus on stroke, mental health and dementia. Another strand of research is focused on workforce development and organisational change in the museum sector. She is the author of  The Museum as a Space of  Social Care and a Non-Executive Director of the Culture Health and Wellbeing Alliance.

At NEMO’s European Museum Conference 2025, Nuala Morse will join the panel "Building resilience: Toward a culture of care" on Tuesday, 28 October.

Caring museums: supporting staff to deliver health and wellbeing

As museum professionals increasingly take on roles in delivering health and wellbeing programmes, what are the implications for staff? What risks does this work pose, and how can they be effectively mitigated to ensure staff safety and wellbeing? Drawing on UK-based research and sector initiatives, this talk explores key priority areas for building a resilient, well-supported workforce capable of unlocking museums’ transformative potential for public health.
