Committee on Culture and Education highlights "chronic under-funding" of Culture in draft opinion on draft budget for EU financial year 2018

In a draft opinion by the Committee om Culture and Education, rapporteur Morten Løkkegaard, emphasised the under-funding of the culture sub-programmes in the Creative Europe and Europe for Citizens programmes.

The draft opinion that was published on 9 June 2017, calls for more funds for the Creative Europe and Europe for Citizens programmes in 2018 and criticises the reduction over 740 000 EUR in the latter's 2018 budget.

While the Committee welcomes the 4 million Euro allocated to fund the <link internal-link internal link in current>European Year of Cultural Heritage as part of the Creative Europe budget line, it also draws attention to "the absence of a stand-alone budget line in accordance with the Parliament and Council commitment to make 7 million EUR for the EYCH 'visible in a budget line'."
