CROATIAN MUSEUM OF TOURISM: 145th anniversary of the arrival of the railway in Opatija and the 110th anniversary of the installation of the tramway in Opatija, Vila Angiolina, June 2018

The Rijeka-Opatija railway link with the already existing Vienna-Trieste track was completed in May 1873. The Southern Railways Company was responsible for its construction and ceremonial opening to traffic. Another railway track was also opened to traffic that year which connected Rijeka with Karlovac i.e. Zagreb and Budapest. And so Opatija also gained a railway link with Vienna, Budapest, Zagreb, Trieste, Ljubljana and other towns on the track’s route in that year. For Rijeka these routes were the precondition of the sudden growth of port traffic, and for Opatija they enabled the development of tourism, plus the building of the first Opatija hotel, Kvarner, in 1884.

CROATIAN MUSEUM OF TOURISM: Gustav Klimt, Villa Angiolina, May 2018

The exhibition about Gustav Klimt consists of 15 posters about Klimt’s life and work, and they are enriched by reproductions of his paintings, drawings, murals, and 7 of his pencil drawings. Establishing the ‘Society of Artists’, he decoratively renovated museums and buildings, after which he became a representative of Austrian Secession and Jugendstil. His golden phase followed in which Beethoven Frieze, and then the famous painting The Kiss were created. This exhibition, the first time in Opatija, returns us to the age of Secession and the golden age of this wonderful time.
