NEMO has Moved Office!

On Tuesday, 13 February, the NEMO office packed all of NEMO’s belongings and moved to Mohrenstraße 63 in 101 17 Mitte, Berlin. The last days have we been busy bees unpacking and setting up the place while catching up on emails. We can’t wait until we can show everyone the finished result!

NEMO opens up its capacity building activities to non-members by popular demand! Participation in NEMO Training Courses and Study Visits costs 250 euros per activity for non-members. The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust - Shakespeare Documentary Heritage recognised by UNESCO International Memory of the World

The UNESCO International Memory of the World programme has recognised the significance of the archival sources for Shakespeare’s biography. The nomination was led by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust in partnership with the organisations that care for these ‘Shakespeare Documents’, including The National Archives, the British Library, and the Folger Shakespeare Library.

German Museum Association - "Which values do museums stand for?", Annual Meeting, May 6 - 9, 2018 in Bremen

During its annual meeting in May 2018 the German Museums Association questions the socio-political neutrality of museums. Museums representatives will discuss if or how museums should be political today and which values they stand for in society?

Museums Association UK - Survey Reveals Museums’ Brexit Fears

The Museums Association’s Museums Report 2018 shows that museums are increasingly concerned about the impact of Brexit including on EU citizens in their workforce. Approximately 4% of the museum sector workforce are non-UK EU citizens, and over a third of museums could have their staffing arrangements disrupted by Brexit if the final deal substantially limits the rights of EU workers in the UK. Elsewhere, the main findings of the report reflect many of the the difficulties faced by publicly funded museums, but steady visitor figures, and an increasing use of participative practice with audiences and communities.

The Estonian Museums Association - The Republic of Estonia Celebrate its 100th Anniversary on February 24, 2018. 

In regard to this museums will open new expositions. The president of Estonia has chosen the Estonian National Museum as the venue of the Presidential Reception.

 

Jamtli Museum - Level Up: Securing Quality in Managing Volunteers

The LevelUp project, a joint effort of five Nordic partners, seeks to secure high quality in volunteer management through the provision of a framework for facilitating volunteering and active citizenship. Our aim is to identify guidelines and infrastructures to provide both volunteers and museum staff with the best possible lifelong learning opportunities that allow them to unfold and enhance their individual skills and competencies and to actively contribute to society. The results will be presented in a final report.

National Institute for Museums and Public Collections - EMYA 2018 conference and gala at POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews, Warsaw, Poland

The National Institute for Museums and Public Collections and the European Museum Forum invite to EMYA 2018 conference and gala, which will take place on 9-12 May 2018 at POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews. The event is a part of the “NIEPODLEGLA” program, which marks the centenary of Poland’s independence.

House of European History - Europeana Migration kick-off event takes place at the House of European History in Brussels

Together with Europeana, Europe’s platform for digital cultural heritage, the House of European History is hosting a family stories collection day on 15-17 March 2018 as part of a brand-new project to build an online collection dedicated to migration – Europeana Migration. People from all backgrounds and generations are invited to come to the museum to contribute their migration stories, and bring along objects that help to tell those stories. They will then be able to find and see them online in the context of others collected from across Europe.

French Ministry of Culture - "La classe, l’œuvre": Children becomes guides during the Night of Museums, Saturday 19 May

Each year since 2013, children of all scholar levels study a museum's work of art and interpret it in front of their relatives and visitors during the Night of Museums.

Portugal Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage - Museum studies editorial collection

Edited by the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage and Caleidoscópio Publishers, a new collection on Museum Studies is being published in Portuguese since 2016. In January 2018, the collection achieved the publication of ten books on different matters of museums and Museology, namely: History of Museums, Museum Networks and Accreditation Systems in European Countries, Cultural Mediation, Collecting of Contemporary Art and Migrant Audiences.

The Museum of the Macedonian Struggle, Skopje - Exhibition: "The Russians in Macedonia (1920-1940)"

On the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the Russian Revolution, an exhibition of documents and photographs entitled "The Russians in Macedonia (1920-1940)" was opened in the Museum. Dedicated to the people who didn’t accept the Russian Revolution, the exhibition presents the life of immigrants in Macedonia from 1920 to 1940.

The Museum of the Macedonian Struggle, Skopje - celebration of five years of museum education

On January 30, the Museum of the Macedonian Struggle celebrated five years of museum education in the institution. The event covered the most important activities in the museum education with the promotion of the catalog, an exhibition of creative works of students, as well as musical perormances and drama plays.

The Museum of the Macedonian Struggle, Skopje - Promotion of a new tool for contemporary museum education

On February 23, the Museum will promote its contemporary educational tool – the interactive 3D web-scene. Build by the students from FINKI Faculty in Skopje, it is dedicated to the scholars in elementary and high school and everyone who wants to explore one exciting event from national history.

Spanish Deputy Directorate of State Museums - Publication of the report “More than numbers”

The report, covering the numbers of visitors of 2017 to State Museums, shows that more than 2,900,000 visits have been made, 5.4% more than in 2016. The report also includes the various activities that the 16 State Museums have made this year. It not only shows quantitative growth, but also qualitative improvements.

Spanish Deputy Directorate of State Museums - Three simultaneous exhibitions of Sorolla

The Sorolla Museum and the Thyssen Museum host the double exhibition "Sorolla and fashion" with paintings and fashion from 1890 to 1920. They also coincide with the exhibition "Sorolla inland", at the Santa Cruz de Toledo Museum, until April, and with “Sorolla. A Garden to paint” organized by the Sorolla Museum at Fundación Bancaja of Valencia.
